It's easy to be cynical. One look at the news gives us plenty of material.1
But unlike some of the other things in life that are easy but not good for us, cynicism often sounds smart.
Only someone who has studied a topic can tell you all the reasons why it will not work. A child cannot grasp all our possible impure motives.
But as Jesus indicated, it is often the childlike who are really wise.
There are countless reasons why something will not work. People and institutions are imperfect. If you look for the negative, you'll find plenty of material.
But when we're so focused on what's wrong, it's easy to miss what's right. And there can be much that is right.
Running away from imperfection means running toward loneliness and a lack of purpose.
Without commitments, we miss out on all the gold buried in the deep.
If you only expect the worst, you never have to worry about getting your hopes up only to be disappointed. That doesn’t mean it’s a wiser way to live.
I will make a video someday about the value of skipping the news, but I first need to practice what I want to preach!
