Winners Often Pivot
And losers never quit.
Many of us spend a lot of time thinking about what to do. And that's important.
But we don't spend enough time reflecting on what we should stop doing.
We're often reluctant to quit something when we have already made a significant investment in pursuing that path.
But the past is past. We’re not getting it back. We then also risk sacrificing our future by failing to quit what's not working.
I know of a talented and generous priest who stopped serving as a spiritual director.
That might sound selfish. He's a priest. But he's still a human being with limitations. Spiritual direction was never his strong suit.
He could be an average-at-best director, or he could focus on his ministerial strengths and empower lay people from his parish to serve as spiritual directors.
When we pivot away from the mediocre, we can make a meaningful impact.
