Deciding, Not Sliding
Don’t go with the flow. Make a wholehearted decision.
What have I been doing with my life?
It’s a question I ask a lot.
I ask this in jest when watching the NBA. LeBron James is ten days older than I am — and has ten more trips to the NBA Finals! What have I been doing with my life? Of course, I could have practiced all my life and never would have been in his galaxy (or Space Jam?). I’m not too worried.
Sometimes, I question what I have been doing with “my life” when really I’m talking about the half-hour I got sucked down the YouTube vortex. I’m not pleased when this happens, but it’s not the end of the world.
But sometimes it’s more serious. What have I been doing with my life? Maybe it’s a habit or relationship or commitment that I never really questioned. Is this really the best use of my time and energy?
Of course, there are certain commitments that we need to honor. But there are other parts of our lives that we might question. Rather than actively deciding to do something, perhaps we have been sliding along a path that is not so good for us. It might be the time to make a change.
